It’s that time again- time for our MAY ATHLETE OF THE MONTH!
This month is special to me, because our athlete of the month is the “little sister” of the gym. She has been working out with us for almost a year now, she is almost always at the box, everyone knows her, and she works harder and is more committed to this sport than most 16 year-olds are to anything. Kinsey was kind enough to allow all of the coaches to spell her name completely wrong (for several months,) she is coachable, she is sassy & intelligent, and she is determined to be the best athlete she can be- and for that reason, she is going to go far in this sport.
Kinsey is not only a CrossFit enthusiast, but she is also in ROTC at her school. Even though she is only a Sophomore, she is looking at going to a college with a ROTC program (like Alabama…ROLL TIDE!) and it is important to her that the college she chooses has a CrossFit club that she can join.
Kinsey has been participating in our Olympic Lifting class for the past two months, and boy Taylor and I can both attest to her serious improvements in her lifts. She is now a solid lifter, is improving her gymnastics skills, and plans on doing her first competition this summer! Kinsey likes to try new things at the box and isn’t afraid to do something out of the norm, whether that be free-standing HSPU, one-arm snatches, or her first rope climb!
The biggest reason that Kinsey is our athlete of the month this month is because she serves as a role model for any other girls her age and those of us at the box. While many 16 year-olds spend their Friday nights partying, she uses any excuse to join us on a Friday night for a WOD. She is always down to be a part of our community both in and out of workouts and she is a perfect example of what happens when you put action towards your dreams. I can say in full faith that she is going to do big things in the CrossFit world if she continues to do what she’s doing.
Next time you see her at the box, give her a hug or a high five and congratulate her on being the ATHLETE OF THE MONTH!
Keep it up, Kins, your coaches love you!
